Herend Golden Edge China

Written by Tamar Medzadourian, Paris Tableware, Ridgewood, New Jersey. Updated .

Herend Golden Edge is white Herend porcelain with two fine gold lines, one along the rim and one around the well, on the same molded shapes as the painted patterns. It has no motif or color of its own, which is why it works as the base of a mixed Herend table and as a first pattern for a new home. Paris Tableware had 93 Golden Edge listings available on October 24, 2026, plus 15 in Platinum Edge, the same design trimmed in platinum.

Golden Edge as the base of a mixed table

The painted Herend patterns use the same plate shapes and the same gold trim, so Golden Edge sits under any of them. Three combinations that work:

  • Golden Edge dinner plates with Rothschild Bird salad plates, so each place gets a different bird scene.
  • Golden Edge plates throughout, with Chinese Bouquet cups and saucers in one color.
  • Golden Edge serving pieces on a Queen Victoria table, so the painted plates stay the focus.

Since Golden Edge has no color to match, you can change the accent pattern years later without replacing the base.

Golden Edge or Platinum Edge?

Platinum Edge (decor code HDE-PT) repeats the design with platinum lines. Choose the metal that matches the rest of your table: gold if you will add painted Herend patterns, all of which are trimmed in gold, and platinum if your flatware, glassware and other china lean silver. Platinum Edge has a shorter list of 15 listings, covering the place setting, a rose-knob teapot, a creamer, a covered sugar and a few serving pieces.

Both metals need the same care: wash by hand and keep them out of the microwave. Our guide to caring for Herend china explains why.

Why couples often start here

Golden Edge is the registry pattern people agree on most easily. Shop Local's July 2026 leaderboard, cited in the Paris Tableware wedding registry guide, counted the Herend Golden Edge Dinner Plate among the five most-registered products in the United States. Our registry guide shows how to build a list around it.

Common questions

Is the gold on Herend Golden Edge real gold?

Yes. The manufactory states that it gilds with real gold, which is painted on after the glaze and fused in a later, cooler firing.

Can Herend Golden Edge go in the dishwasher?

Paris Tableware recommends washing Golden Edge by hand. Its gold lines are its only decoration, and dishwasher detergent wears gold down over time.

What is the difference between Golden Edge and Platinum Edge?

The design is the same; Platinum Edge (decor code HDE-PT) uses platinum lines instead of gold and has a smaller range of 15 listings at Paris Tableware.

Does Golden Edge match other Herend patterns?

Yes. It uses the same plate shapes and gold trim as Rothschild Bird, Queen Victoria, Princess Victoria and Chinese Bouquet, so it works as a base under any of them.
